The Montgomery City Council voted Monday to support a fiber broadband expansion project that would extend high-speed internet to underserved rural areas of Montgomery County.

The resolution clears the way for the city to partner with a regional cooperative on a state grant application. City administrator Paul Ringen said reliable internet has become essential for local farms, schools, and small businesses.

If funded, construction could begin as early as next spring.
