The Ashland Board of Aldermen awarded a $640,000 contract Tuesday night to repaint and repair the city's main elevated water storage tower off Henry Clay Boulevard.

Public works director Greg Tipton said the 250,000-gallon tank has not been recoated since 2004 and that crews found early corrosion during a routine inspection this spring.

Work is expected to begin after the July 4 holiday and last roughly eight weeks, with no anticipated interruption to service.
